ABOUTMoxvox is an independent fashion label run by designer Melissa King in Sydney, Australia. Melissa specialises in one of a kind garments and limited editions. Her designs are intelligent and feature quirky detailing from tongue in cheek prints to artful applique and cute yet clever silhouettes. A combination which endeavours to make fashion a not so serious affair. Inspired by the world around her and never settling on one particular style or trend, Melissa's designs share a common thread. Whether she draws from the 60's, 70's 80's, streetstyle or everyday objects, her designs always embrace an ideal balance of individuality and wearabilty. Edgy, cute, sexy, colourful and flattering to the female form. Moxvox is produced using responsible fashion manufacturing, all our handcrafted products are made in Australia without the use of sweat shop style workmanship. We recycle as much of our waste as possible and aim to produce quality garments that will stand the test of time.
Core concepts: craft meets science, the equilibrium of organic and inorganic, therefore the methods used to communicate this include computer graphics, handrawings and free form thread work and applique. It is the marriage of hi-tech and lo-tech applications. Screenprinting is quite a mechanical procedure yet also organic as there can be misprints. The sewing machine is used as a paint brush. Human and machine as one. A concept can start on a digital camera as a photo and be interpreted and reinterpreted many times in many ways. A photo becomes a graphic which becomes a screenprint which becomes an applique etc. Inspiration: Everyday objects, the mundane, the lost and ignored textures of the sub/urban landscapes and environments. The imperfect and the unique, the misprint and the mistake. In a world that is geared to producing the perfect product en mass, the real beauty is found in the handcrafted and unique. Of course there is a place for the mass produced but there is even more room for the individual and the unique. Want to know more read her blog here
