Melissa King is an artist/designer based in Sydney, Australia. Melissa studied Visual Arts at university level and majored in printmaking. Enjoying a hands on approach to art making, Melissa never shies away from ‘getting her hands dirty’. She has always been heavily influenced by the D.I.Y movement. This ‘do it yourself’ attitude gave her the impetus to learn new skills and acquire knowledge allowing her the creative scope of  a multi-disciplined artist/designer.

Since finishing her studies, Melissa has exhibited her work, designed and produced her own garment and accessories label, co-promoted successful underground electronic events and participated in various collaborative projects. Following the D.I.Y ethos further, she opened her own store. Not only designing and producing  most of the garments and accessories herself, but also creating the entire shop interior with re-used and recycled materials. The store successfully exposed up and coming local designers and promoted awareness into ethical manufactured fashion.

She has also been heavily involved in the promoting and production side of electronic music events. The driving force behind the creative side of party production, she is responsible for some of Sydney’s more unique and successful underground branding, as well as the creation of installations and video projections.  Melissa has also successfully acquired dj and electronic music production skills .

She is completely self taught in both graphic and garment design and now more recently she has turned her focus to photography. Her latest project ‘365wordgirl’ masterfully combines and utilises many of the skills she has gained. Not only does she take the self-portrait shots, but also single-handedly creates the costumes, props and sets.
