The Canvas Project
While I sit here waiting for the vanish on my tiny canvases to dry, I thought I might write a little about the latest project I have involved myself in. The Canvas Project is organised by Art House Co-op, based in Brokklyn, NY.
Participants had a choice of two ways to get involved.
- Submitting random words to be used for the project, sound familar?
- Creating 3 artworks using provided canvases. The starting point being 3 words that were randomly sent to each of the participants.
I simply could not resist getting involved and as I am well and truly immersed in my 365wordgirl project, it seemed fitting to extended this project into the next.
The parcel must be postmarked by today and true to my usual self I am cutting the deadline close.
Here are some quick photos of the end results. As you can see I used this as an excuse to extend my 365 adventure. But it's also inspired my to paint more and rediscover some old directions in my artmaking.
New home for 365wordgirl
Just to let you know that the 365wordgirl project now has it's own home. I moved it to save confusion and to better promote it. The bonus is that is also looks the shizz-nizzle on the pure black background. So to celebrate the move, go leave a word...it will be so unbelievably worth it!!
365 wordgirl
Immediately after finishing my 30 days project, I was fairly keen to start a new challenge....actually I didn't want to stop! So after pondering the various ways I could approach this idea, I have finally settled on my concept. Crazy as it may seem, I will be embarking on a self-portrait project with a twist.
- It will go for an entire year (and perhaps beyond!). Yeah that's what 365 stands for ;]
- Each day will be assigned a word (these words come from comments on my blog), each week I will use these same words as the basis and theme of a self-portrait.
- The journey is totally unpredictable as all initial input (i.e. the daily words) into the project is via comments on my blog. Yes, that's right, I need you to leave a word in the comment box (you can also say hi, if you like!)
- Each comment should include a word that I will then utilise in some way for my weekly self-portrait.
For example: Comments 1-7 will form the basis or 'story' for the first self-portrait, 8-14 for the 2nd and so on. After the 52 self-portraits are complete I hope to either exhibit them in an exhibition or publish them as a book. We will see. I am both nervous and excited by this concept. I mean it could totally fail or it could be lots of fun, who knows?!?! .....there lies the challenge. So 365 words, 52 self-portraits, 1 girl and you! I need YOUR imput.....
- Please leave any comments of encouragement and ideas, as well as your 'word' below....
(and be imaginative, swear words (even though I love to swear), just for the sake of it are....well, just a little boring really)
Arggghhhhh!! wish me luck!
